She made her debut in 1999 in The Bold and the Beautiful daytime soap and in several television pilots. Bruckner's first leading role was on the screen in Blue Car (2002), an independent film where she portrayed a teenager who had an affair David Strathairn as her high school teacher. Roger Ebert, a film critic, said Bruckner did a fantastic job in this difficult script with total conviction. Bruckner received nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for "Best female leading actress" for this role. She was brought up with two brothers and one sibling. Hungarian was her first language and she practiced it regularly to guarantee fluency. Bruckner lived in Hollywood, California with her Hungarian mother and Russian father. The couple separated. Bruckner's German-speaking paternal grandfather has passed away. Her parents met in Hungary and relocated to the U.S. in 1984 through the refugee camp located in Italy. She is the mother of two sisters, and a brother.
